Batman Ninja, originally released digitally by Warner Bros. in April 2018 and on home video in May 2018, followed Batman as he traveled back to Japan's Warring States period to battle villains who had become feudal lords. The film made its Japanese theater debut in June 2018 and aired on Toonami in October 2021.
A manga adaptation by Masato Hisa was serialized in Monthly Hero's from June 2018 to September 2019, and it won the Seiun Award in 2020. The anime also inspired a stage play that premiered in November 2021.
