Did you know ?
The names of the characters from the popular anime Frieren come from German words. If you are German you probably already know but here are some of the main cast's names and explanations for the others.
Here are some of the translations of the casts early on in the anime and manga :
And here are some explanations:
Name | Translation in English | Our Observations |
---|---|---|
Frieren | To Freeze | Probably because of her “cold” personality |
Fern | Far away, remote | It has probably no link with the eponym plant |
Stark | Strong | Quite strong innit' |
Himmel | Sky, heaven | The best boy does not need an explanation |
Eisen | Iron | As hard as iron |
Heiter | Cheerful | His number 1 quality when he drinks (always) |
Sein | To Be | Maybe because of his identity crisis before going on his journey |
Flamme | Flame | Opposite of Frieren who means To Freeze |
Kraft | Power, force | Quite strong innit' |
Gorilla | Gorilla | (hmmm, this one was hard) |
Graf Granat | Count Grenat | Graf means Count, we are not sure about the last name |
Serie | Series | Please teach us about this one |
Aura | Aura | (That's one deep translation) |
Lügner | Liar | Well, demons lie, he is a demon, therefore he is a liar. |
Qual | Agony | Quite stylish |
And in fact, EVERY character in the manga has a name from a German word. From side characters to enemies. Maybe only the Demon King and the Hero of the South (Which are not mentioned by their name but only by title) are the only ones to not have one.
So when the anime catches up a little more we will be pleased to do the next translation of the future cast !
Stay tuned!
