Anime studio BONES announced on Thursday that they will be adapting Kei Urana's manga, "Gachiakuta," into a TV anime set to premiere in 2025. The official website for the anime has released a teaser trailer and a "kick-off" visual to celebrate the announcement.
Fumihiko Suganuma, known for his work as the unit director on "The First Slam Dunk," will direct the series. Hiroshi Seko, who has worked on notable projects such as "Chainsaw Man," "Vinland Saga," and "Mob Psycho 100," will handle the series scripts. Satoshi Ishino, who has contributed to "Date A Live," "Captain Earth," and "Release the Spyce," is tasked with character design and will also serve as the chief animation director.
The announcement also featured a celebratory illustration by Kei Urana.
The anime staff, including members from BONES, Avex Pictures, and Kodansha, will present a panel at Anime Expo next month to discuss the upcoming series.
Kodansha USA Publishing, which releases the manga in English, provides the following synopsis:
Rudo lives in the slums of a floating town where the impoverished struggle beneath the opulent lives of the wealthy, who discard their garbage into the abyss below. Wrongfully accused of murder, Rudo faces an unimaginable punishment: exile to the surface with the rest of the trash. There, amidst humanity's discarded waste, he encounters monstrous creatures. To seek vengeance and uncover the truth, Rudo must harness a new power and join the Cleaners, a group fighting the monstrous trash beasts of the Pit.
The manga, launched in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022, has its graffiti design credited to Hideyoshi Ando. Kodansha published the 10th compiled volume on March 15 and will release the 11th volume on June 17. In the United States, Kodansha USA Publishing released the second volume on April 30.
