Studio 4°C Unveils the Animated Film ChaO, Set for Release This Summer

Toei announced during its press conference outlining its 2025–2026 programming that Studio 4°C is working on a brand-new animated film titled ChaO, scheduled for release this summer.

Studio 4°C also revealed a visual, the production staff, and the synopsis of the film.

Yasuhiro Aoki (Kimagure Robot, Tweeny Witches) is directing the project at Studio 4°C, with Hirokazu Kojima (Deadman Wonderland, Coyote Ragtime Show) serving as the character designer and chief animation director. Hiroshi Takiguchi (Ajin, The Case of Hana & Alice, The Garden of Words) is the art director. Toei will handle distribution.

Studio 4°C described the story as follows:
"In a futuristic society where humans and mermaids coexist in harmony, Stephen, an office worker, unexpectedly receives a marriage proposal from Chao, the princess of the mermaid kingdom! A true 100% love story!"

Oricon revealed that Studio 4°C has been secretly working on this film for seven years. During the press conference, producer Eiko Tanaka stated that the film was hand-animated, with over 100,000 drawings.
