Gintama's Spinoff TV Anime "3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei" news, casts and release dates

The "Gintama Channel 4th Year Anniversary & Gintoki Sakata Sudden Emergence Anniversary 2024" livestream announced that the spinoff TV anime 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei will premiere on TV Tokyo in October 2025.

This spinoff, based on Tomohito Ōsaki's novel from Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama universe, focuses on Ginpachi Sakata as a high school teacher. A new visual, along with staff and cast details, was revealed, while a promotional video will debut at Jump Festa 2025 on December 21.

The anime is directed by Natsumi Higashida, with Makoto Moriwaki as the general director, and key returning staff includes Kazuyuki Fudeyasu on series composition and Shinji Takeuchi as the chief animation director. The voice cast sees the return of familiar faces like Tomokazu Sugita as Ginpachi Sakata and other main characters from the original Gintama series, including Rie Kugimiya as Kagura and Kazuya Nakai as Toshiro Hijikata.

Returning cast members from the original Gintama anime include:

Tomokazu Sugita as Ginpachi Sakata
Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura
Rie Kugimiya as Kagura
Satsuki Yukino as Tae Shimura
Susumu Chiba as Isao Kondo
Kazuya Nakai as Toshiro Hijikata
Kenichi Suzumura as Sogo Okita
Tetsuharu Ohta as Sagaru Yamazaki
Yū Kobayashi as Ayame Sarutobi
Akira Ishida as Kotaro Katsura
Takehito Koyasu as Shinsuke Takasugi
Satoshi Hino as Kamui

The 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei spinoff, first introduced in 2006, follows the comedic misadventures of Ginpachi as a teacher, despite his unconventional attitude. The novel series saw its latest volume published in 2018. This isn’t the first time the concept has been animated, as it previously appeared in short segments during Gintama anime episodes.

Gintama, which began as a manga in 2003 and concluded in 2019 with over 55 million copies sold, has inspired numerous adaptations, including TV series, films, OVAs, and live-action productions. The latest film, Gintama THE VERY FINAL, was released in 2021, and the franchise continues to celebrate its 20th anniversary with special screenings of compilations such as Gintama on Theater 2D.
