On September 1, 2024, during the "MF Bunko J Summer School Festival 2024" livestream event, it was revealed that the anime series Classroom of the Elite will be returning for a fourth season. This new season will adapt the first semester of the Classroom of the Elite: Year 2 light novels.
The anime originally debuted in July 2017, with Crunchyroll streaming the series and Funimation providing an English dub. The second and third seasons, which aired in July 2022 and January 2024 respectively, covered the complete first-year arc of the story. Both seasons were also streamed by Crunchyroll.
The Classroom of the Elite light novel series, written by Shōgo Kinugasa and published by Kadokawa, began in May 2015. Seven Seas Entertainment has been releasing the light novels and their manga adaptation in English. The Year 2 light novels, a sequel to the original series, started in January 2020 and serve as a continuation of the story.
To date, the franchise has more than 9.5 million copies in circulation, including digital editions.
