The official website for Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju No. 8 anime has announced that the series' second season will premiere in 2025. Additionally, fans can look forward to a compilation film of the first season, which will include a new original episode titled "Hoshina's Day Off." Both the compilation film and the original episode will be screened together in Japanese theatres in 2025.
The announcement was strategically made on August 5 to play on the Japanese pronunciation of "No. 8" as "Hachi Gō," with "hachi" meaning eight and "go" also representing five.
In exciting casting news, Kōki Uchiyama will join the second season as Gen Harumi. Crunchyroll will stream the new season.
Kaiju No. 8 first aired on TV Tokyo on April 13, running for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles and an English dub. Additionally, the anime was available to stream worldwide on X (formerly Twitter) in real-time as it aired in Japan.
The series boasted an impressive lineup of talent, with Shigeyuki Miya (Onihei) and Tomomi Kamiya directing. Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) handled the series composition and screenplay. Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto) served as the character designer and chief animation director, while Mahiro Maeda (Shin Godzilla) designed the monsters. Shinji Kimura (Tekkonkinkreet) was the art director, and Yuta Bando (BELLE) composed the music. Animation production was managed by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell), with Studio Khara (Rebuild of Evangelion) handling kaiju designs and artwork.
The Kaiju No. 8 manga is available in English through Viz Media, both digitally and physically. Shueisha also publishes the manga digitally under the title Monster #8 on its MANGA Plus service, describing the story as follows:
A man working a job far removed from his childhood dreams gets wrapped up in an unexpected situation…! Becoming a monster, he aims once again to fulfil his lifelong dream…!
Naoya Matsumoto launched the ongoing manga in July 2020 on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ website. The franchise has also expanded to include a spinoff manga and an upcoming game for smartphones and PC.
